3-seater bench “Japan” model by Finn Juhl for France & Son editions.
Iconic and rare FD 137 model, also called Japan Chair, designed in 1953 for France & Daverkosen which became France & Son in 1957.
This bench with sober and minimalist lines is a Finn Juhl classic. This model is highly sought after by collectors of 20th century design.
The sublime simplicity of the “Japan” series is inspired by traditional Japanese construction techniques. The horizontal backrest, resting on slightly tapered legs, refers to a Japanese temple door.
We note Finn Juhl’s desire to emphasize the difference between the different elements – the wooden frame supporting element which elegantly separates from the seat with brass supports.
Completely reupholstered by a professional, with change of foam, in green Nobilis Montblanc 70% wool fabric. Very beautiful tapestry work throughout. Spring under the original seat. Exceptional comfort. Very nice contrast between the bright green color and the color of the wood.
The frame is in solid teak, no longer available. Beautiful brass-plated spacer details between the seat and the frame. The teak structure has its original light patina, deliberately preserved, adding to its charm and authenticity.
Presence of France & Son plates on the frame under the seat.
