Antique Japanese Meiji Period Hand Painted Shimazu Satsuma Moriage Kannon Immortals and Dragon Dragonware Tea Set- 14 Pieces
Stunning Japanese Meiji period (1868-1912) Shimazu Satsuma Moriage Kannon Immortals and Dragon Dragonware 14 piece tea set. Set is beautifully moriage hand painted with intricately detailed raised slip bead and trail features with enamel beading and heavy gold overlay. Each container has a beautiful bulging dragon body wrapper around the top and sides leading to the dragon head on the lid. Each cup has hand painted kneeling robed figure at the bottom inside the cup. Every piece is marked or signed on the bottom with Satsuma Shimazu family crest.
The hand painted details will keep you busy for hours just looking at each one and you really have to see them in person and feel the brushstrokes to truely appreciate the time and detail that went into each piece. Set is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, or damage of any kind and doesn’t appear to have been used very often if at all. Some crazing to the glaze surface which is consistent with age and happens to all pieces from this time period.
