A spectacular 19th century pharmacy mortar from USA. This pretty earthenware pottery pestle would have been used. To crush and grind a variety of substances into fine powders or paste creating various remedies. We Love the pestle’s long wooden handle, wonderful for repurpose use in a chef’s kitchen. Earthenware Mortar is in good unchipped condition. Stamped underneath Thomas Maddocks & Sons.
