Early Century William and MaryJacobean Sideboard by Berkey and Gay for JB Van Sciver Co,

This rare vintage late 20th century coastal rattan sideboard is wrapped in a beautiful cerused split reed with decorative palm leaf marquetry on the face of either of the four cabinet doors and tropical palm hardware pulls on drawers. Solid construction, drawers and doors open smoothly with ease. Some minor scuffs and imperfections consistent with age.

Stunning credenza by Harvey Probber. Made of mahogany and has a black lacquer satin finish, rosewood doors, and metal pulls and legs. There are four drawers and two sliding doors, behind which are two adjustable shelves and two cork lined drawers for plenty of storage. The six legs are adjustable for leveling. The credenza has been professionally refinished and has a Harvey Probber label in the top drawer.

Beautiful functional mid-century modern Danish Two-Door Cabinet / Credenza. Flat front, 2 large doors opening in the center, each with a “mushroom” handle over round aluminum plate. Original Mid-Century Modern Danish example made in the 1950’s or 60’s. The quality of the piece is superb, fine solid teak, superb hardware and construction (see photos). This gorgeous hand-carved and painted four-door Italian credenza has rounded ends (“galbé”) and was initially constructed in the 1800s. The demi-lune top with quarter-round molding over a cavetto cornice has a well-done painted faux marble finish, replicating a gold stone with brown, white, and orange veining. There are four slightly extended sections of the molding that align with each of the feet at the base, which are blocked with shaped bracket embellishments. The feet, which have heavy golden brown overtones, are separated from the main body by a gold cavetto molding that runs along all sides.

Above each foot is a protruding pilaster, with the front two having applied orange foliate margents. Similar leaves can be seen on and around the golden lozenges that surround the gold knobs on each of the four doors. The large diamonds also have a faux marble finish, consisting of yellow and white paint coupled with exposed areas of powder blue that make up the background of the entire main body. All four doors open to reveal full-length shelves lined with cream and gold foliate silk, although the two side compartments have wedge-shaped shelves due to the galbe construction of the credenza. This lovely four-door Italian credenza is a stately and impressive piece that can be displayed in a foyer or entry hall, living room, or bar area.

Winchendon Furniture Corporation
Founded: In 1923 by John H. Murray and his brother Patrick. Until 1935, it was knows as Winchendon Chair Company.
Location: The Murray purchased a plant from Demond & Brown Chair Co. on Murdock Avenue. In 1935 they purchased factory buildings of Morton E. Converse & Son Company at 101 Jackson Avenue
Products: The Murray brothers began manufacturing kitchen chairs. Around 1935, they expanded their products to the “Old Meeting House Maple” line, making dining room, living room and bedroom furniture. After World War II, the company introduced a modern line of furniture.
Date closed: IN 1963, Winchendon Furniture became a division of Sprague & Carlton, Inc. of Keene, N.H. who continued to operate the Winchendon Mass. plant until some time in the 1970s, when Patriot Industries acquired Sprague and Carlton. The company is now out of business.
